Stellate ganglion is a star-shaped group of nerves located at the base of the neck. It is part of the autonomic nervous system which regulates body functions that we are not aware of, body temperature, blood flow, heart rate and blood pressure are a few examples of those functions. Blocking those nerves with a local anesthetic and a small amount of steroids allow them to reset themselves back to baseline, not very different from restarting a computer that is not functioning correctly. This is of benefit in treatment painful conditions like Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD).
